Mining and wineing
On Monday we went to the largets copper mine in the world. It was incredible to see the size of the operation. There are over 4500 kilometres of tunnels inside of mine. The amazing thing is that our tour took us into the middle of the mine and we actually got to see some of the operation. Because Dante, a Rotarian and employee of the mine, was with us, we got to go in some working tunnels and see a train dump rocks in the shaft which leads to the crusher. Then we rode out on an old mining train. It was amazing. They also do a lot of remote mining and so we got to go into the control room and see the workers run the machines from 15 kilometres away. Maggie said that it is good incentive for parents to let their children play video games! We were all pretty tired afterwards, but had a very fun Rotary meeting in the evening.
Yesterday (Tuesday) we had a mellow day and it felt great. I think most members of the team slept in a bit and then we met for lunch at a barbeque restraunt. Very good food and of course piscos and vino. Afterwards we drove south to some vinyards. The tour was great and the old buildings all had a lovely smell of wine and grapes. I think we are all excited to try the wine that we bought.
